IGOF MASTER’S COURSE IN HIP & KNEE ARTHROPLASTY, 13 & 14 Sep 2008
IGOF organized a two day International Seminar on Hip and Knee Arthroplasty at MIOT Hospitals – pioneer of joint replacement surgeries in India. A “Master’s Course in Hip & Knee Arthroplasty” programme was successfully conducted on Saturday – September 13, 2008 and Sunday – September 14, 2008.
More than 400 delegates from various countries participated in the seminar where the recent developments in Hip & Knee Replacement surgery and joints lasting for a lifetime were elaborated upon.
The seminar saw renowned surgeons from all over the world discussing
- Changes in the operative techniques
- Changes in the material used for implants
– From plastic cups to ceramic cups
– From metal heads to ceramic heads,
- Replacement of old materials used for joints and
- The enhancement of a joint which lasted 10-15 years to a life time.
The seminar also covered a lecture on minimally invasive hip and knee surgery – no muscle cutting, less complications and early return to normal activity. Dr. Prithvi Mohandas (Director of Hip Arthroplasty, MIOT Hospitals) gave a lecture on “Minimal Invasive Approaches -Does minimal invasiveness improve early or late outcome”. This lecture covered topics from his scientific journal – Current Orthopedics 2005 “A review of minimally invasive hip replacement surgery – current practice and the way forward”
On both the days, the seminars were followed by Live Surgeries performed in the modern laminar flow theatres at MIOT Hospitals.
