International Seminar on Endoscopic Ultrasound - 15th August 2011
The MIOT Advanced Center for Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases conducted an International Seminar on significant advancement in the field of diagnostic Upper GI Endoscopy and Colonoscopy here at MIOT Hospitals today – 15 August 2011.
There has been significant advancement in the field of diagnostic Upper GI Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. The recent advancement in Endoscopic Ultrasound combines Endoscopy with Ultrasound in order to obtain images and information about the digestive tract and surrounding organs. A small ultrasound transducer is installed at the tip of the endoscope which allows more detailed and accurate images to be obtained for diagnosis.
The traditional endoscopy is only to look at the stomach and intestine, whereas, the Endoscopic Ultrasound can diagnose lesions in all areas across the stomach and intestine such as pancreas, pancreatic duct, biliary tree, liver and also the mesenteric lymph nodes in that area. The Endoscopic Ultrasound enables us to make early diagnosis of lesions including cancer in these areas.
MIOT Hospitals is the first hospital to obtain this Endoscopic Ultrasound and also has trained its Specialists in the use of this advanced equipment. We have now gained expertise in this field.
Dr. Shyam Varadarajulu, Medical Director & Chief of Endoscopic Center of Excellence, University of Albama at Birmingham, U.S.A. lectured and demonstrated the functions and advantages of Endoscopic Ultrasound.
