ECMO ( Extra corporeal membrane oxygenation)
The ECMO machine allows establishment of rapid support for heart, lungs or both organs, in times of crisis. This machine takes over the function of the lungs by oxygenating the blood going through the membrane of the machine. This helps in both lungs and heart support depending on the condition of the patient.
In heart failure, sometimes due to severe compromise of hemodynamics, the need for a rapid mechanical and oxygenation support is fulfilled by ECMO. At MIOT, this advanced form of life support is available at anytime, along with ICU care which matches international standards. The result is that many patients in severe form of organ failure have been revived to normal life.
